Title: Gwich'in Family Healing Program at Tl'oondih: Addressing the Trauma From Residential Schools
Project Description:
The project will provide individual counselling and group therapy
through the use of counsellors in Inuvik, Aklavik, Tsiigehtchic and
Fort McPherson. To complement the counselling provided, Elders will be
utilized to provide traditional healing activities.
The project will offer on the land healing programs at the Tl'oondih Healing Camp for participants in each of the project's communities.
The healing programs will focus on three themes: Helping Survivors and their families to address their experiences of trauma and recovery; assisting Survivors and their families to address their feeling of shame; and to assist Survivors and their families to deal with their self destructive behaviours. The healing camps will include a variety of activities including therapy, grief therapy, art therapy and psychodrama.
