Nimishomis-Nokomis Healing Group
Grant ID:
4722.01
Project Title:
Nimishomis - Nokomis Traditional Healing
Project Description:
The
Traditional Elders have combined their collective strengths, knowledge
and traditional resources to provide healing and therapy through the
practice of Traditional healing methods involving gatherings,
ceremonies including the shaking tent, sweat lodges and one-on-one
therapies and direct counselling to families of the 28 communities in
Treaty #3. Nimishomis - Nokomis has been
operating a healing project since 1999 and since then has validated its
approach by administering traditional therapy, medicine and treatment
to over 700 Survivors per year. With this experience and continuous
direct contact with individual Survivors, they adapt the overall
approach to the needs to the youth, women, men and Elders on a
case-by-case basis. Thus, the Survivors, their families
and communities are directly involved in the design development and
implementation of the project.
